Tourism of Faith

Istanbul is host to millions of people that belong to different religions. There are over 2,000 mosques in Istanbul. Among these mosques, 340 are Ottoman mosques located inside the walls of the city. Of the 35 Armenian churches, 95 percent belong to the Armenian Gregorian denomination and 5 percent are Armenian Catholic churches. The number of Greek Orthodox churches open for worship is 95. Led by Neve Shalom Synagogue, the history of which dates back to the 1940’s, the main synagogues in Istanbul are the following: Istanbul Ashkenaz Synagogue, Bakırköy Synagogue, Caddebostan Bet El Synagogue, Ahrida Synagogue and the Yeniköy Synagogue.

In summary, Istanbul is home to important centers of three major mono-theistic religions.
