Istanbul Modern Art Museum
The exhibition halls of Istanbul Modern consist of two main sections.
The permanent collection of the museum is on display on the upper floor. Te main halls narrates the chronological evolution of modern and contemporary art in Turkey from its initial stages to the present, highlighting major artists and artworks. The texts accompanying the artworks in the exhibition halls describe the social, cultural, economic and political dynamics of this evolution. In the small hall of the collection floor, contemporary art pieces of renowned artists both from Turkey and from different geographies are gathered. The collection floor features a modern and contemporary exhibition that covers a range from painting to sculpture, from installations to video, covering the start of the 20th century to the present day.
On the lower floor, the Temporary Exhibitions Hall, in the Gallery of Photography and the Short-Term Exhibition Areas, visitors can catch two or three exhibitions at any given time. The Temporary Exhibitions Hall displays conceptual exhibitions and retrospectives from modern and contemporary examples of Turkish art. This hall also hosts large-scale and international exhibitions that represent current transformations in the field of visual arts. The Photo Gallery presents a retrospective on the world art movements in photography and the evolution of photography in Turkey with a fine selection. In addition, works of leading national and international photographers are exhibited. The Short-Term Exhibition Areas, with its dynamic and interdisciplinary structure, host exhibitions in various fields such as architecture, design, video and new media.
