Elgiz Museum

Elgiz Museum, was founded as Turkey’s first contemporary art museum in 2001 by collectors Sevda and Can Elgiz. In the absence of state or foundation museums on contemporary art, Elgiz Museum aimed to meet this gap and help developing contemporary art. The museum opened to the public on an area of 2,000 square meters as a non-profit organization with an international entity.

In this private museum, formerly known as Proje4L, the works of young artists and curators have been exhibited and the development of contemporary art has been carried to an international platform. The museum continues its mission with the permanent Elgiz Collection, as well as by hosting various temporary exhibitions, educational and social programs to capture current trends.

Located among the Maslak business towers, this “special collections museum” hosts the exhibitions of the works of sculptors, and land art projects in their open air terrace. The museum, which Tripadvisor calls a “hidden treasure”, is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday to Friday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays.

In 2013, the International Collection Award was presented to the Elgiz Collection by IFEMA Amigos de ARCO Madrid; In 2014, the Elgiz Museum was awarded the Honorary Award bearing the signature of sculptor Mehmet Aksoy from ÇAĞSAV Contemporary Arts Foundation. Since 2015, it has been a founding member of the Global Private Museum Network and a member of the International Council of Museums (ICOM).
