Ara Güler Museum presents its new exhibition titled “CANNES!”, featuring photographs taken by Ara Güler at the Cannes Film Festival over different years. The exhibition opens to the public on April 22 and includes works that are being shown from the archive for the first time. Focusing on the most vibrant and innovative years of cinema, the exhibition offers a visual journey into the golden age of film. The “CANNES!” exhibition will be open to visitors at the Ara Güler Museum between April 22 and October 11, 2026.
The late 1950s and the 1960s represent a defining period not only in the history of cinema but also for the Cannes Film Festival. During these years, Cannes became a focal point not only for films, but also for filmmakers, actors, and the broader cultural atmosphere that formed around them.
The beaches, hotels, and crowds stretching along La Croisette the famous seaside promenade of the French Riviera stand out as key elements that fueled the glamour of the era and the festival’s allure. The photographs greeting visitors as they enter the exhibition reflect this very atmosphere. Alongside the brilliance of the red carpet, the everyday rhythm of the festival and its unexpected encounters are also brought into view.
The “CANNES!” exhibition features photographs taken by Ara Güler of many iconic cinema figures of the era, including Brigitte Bardot, Sophia Loren, Princess Grace of Monaco, Federico Fellini, Orson Welles, Jean Cocteau, Michelangelo Antonioni, Kim Novak, and François Truffaut. The images that make up the exhibition not only highlight well-known figures but also bring the magic of cinema and the spirit of an era into the present.
Ara Güler portrays Cannes not only through the moments of stars on stage or on the red carpet, but also through the everyday scenes behind the festival. He brings together those trying to find fame in Cannes, photojournalists, and crowds of fans, sometimes within the same frame as a star and sometimes side by side. In doing so, he allows the viewer to feel the true rhythm and atmosphere of the festival.
