Shaped through abstract topographies, fictional portraits, and inner spaces, these works create not an escape, but rather spaces where breathing becomes possible again. Reflecting the artists’ inquiry into the possibilities of photography, the exhibition presents a wide range of practices extending from installations to moving images, from AI-based applications to archival materials. In doing so, it reminds us that photography does not only reflect the world, but can also construct new emotional and spatial images; and that pausing, questioning, and beginning again are all possible.
In the exhibition catalogue of “Panorama: Dreams and Places”, essays on the exhibition and the artists are included by the members of the Istanbul Modern Photography Advisory Board, Refik Akyüz, Serdar Darendeliler, and Orhan Cem Çetin, as well as by the museum’s Artistic Director Çelenk Bafra and Head of Photography Department Demet Yıldız Dinçer.
