Built by Fatih Sultan Mehmed in 1458, Eyüp Sultan Mosque is considered to be the place where the banner of the Prophet Muhammad is buried. Eyüp Sultan Mosque is a rectangular building with a single dome. The interior of the mosque, with its marble mihrab, minbar, and pulpit, is decorated with Iznik tiles. The exterior of the mosque is decorated with pointed arches.
The courtyard of Eyüp Sultan Mosque houses a fountain and a tomb. The tomb houses the banner of the Prophet Muhammad and the tomb of Fatih Sultan Mehmed. The historic mosque, one of the most important cultural and historical sites in Istanbul, welcomes millions of visitors every year.
