Kalenderhane Mosque, which is in the form of an Eastern Orthodox church, was converted into a mosque in the 18th century after the conquest of Istanbul. This structure, which was given to the Kalender dervishes by Fatih Sultan Mehmet, took the name Kalenderhane.
Kalenderhane Mosque represents one of the few surviving examples of the Greek cross vaulted Byzantine church type. Based on its plan and stylistic features, it is assumed that the structure dates back to the 9th or 10th centuries.
