Büyük Mecidiye Mosque is a historic mosque located in the Ortaköy district of Beşiktaş, Istanbul. Built in 1853 by Ottoman Sultan Abdülmecid, the mosque bears the hallmarks of Neo-Baroque architecture.
One of the most important symbols of the Bosphorus, the mosque, designed by the Armenian architect Nigoğos Balyan, has two floors, with a prayer area for women on the lower floor and a prayer area for men on the upper floor. The interior of the mosques dome, which has two minarets, is decorated with pink mosaics. Büyük Mecidiye Mosque is one of the most important symbols of the Bosphorus.
